Design Lecture Series
Brand Strategy
The Design Lecture Series was developed to inspire and engage students through exposure to modern design trends. Featuring talks by industry professionals, the series encourages students to challenge conventional design thinking and embrace new visual approaches.
Role: Graphic Designer, Visual Designer, Print Production, Marketing Graphics
Tools Used: Adobe InDesign
Purpose
This project focused on the creation of a promotional marketing poster—distributed around campus in the month leading up to the event. The poster explores contemporary typographic principles by emphasizing hierarchy, white space, structure, and a minimalist aesthetic.
✦ Project Goals
Design is ever-evolving. For this project, my goal was to generate excitement and anticipation among students while introducing them to a modern visual language. The final poster adopts a typographic-first approach, utilizing a strong black-and-white palette to create contrast, focus, and clarity. This choice not only aligned with the event's branding but also supported cost-effective large-scale printing.
✦ Creative Approach
Two high-fidelity mockups were created to explore different visual solutions. Both emphasized alignment, spacing, and intentional typography to reflect the innovative spirit of the lecture series.
The chosen final design stands out for its balance between bold fonts and generous white space. The layout guides the viewer’s eye through the content in a natural vertical flow, making key information easy to absorb. The lack of color is purposeful—proving that impactful design can thrive through structure and form alone.
✦ Impact
The minimalist design, coupled with strategic information placement, created a poster that was not only visually appealing but also effective in drawing attention across campus. The final product helped drive attendance and build anticipation for the event, reinforcing the value of creative communication in student-driven spaces.
Conclusion
The Design Lecture Series poster project demonstrates how thoughtful design can inform, inspire, and connect with its audience. By leaning into minimalism and typographic clarity, I was able to create a piece that not only communicated the essentials of the event but also reflected the innovative spirit behind it. This project was a valuable exploration of design structure, strategic messaging, and how simplicity can be a powerful visual tool. It serves as a reminder that great design isn’t just about aesthetics—it’s about purpose, intention, and impact.
