Earth + Humans Podcast

Bridging People and the Planet
Through Visual Storytelling

Overview

Earth + Humans is an innovative podcast series launched in Fall 2019 by the School of Geographical Sciences and Urban Planning at Arizona State University. It was developed to educate listeners on the environmental impacts and sustainable practices shaping our world today. Hosted by Director Trisalyn Nelson, the series features insightful conversations with ASU professors and researchers, diving into pressing global challenges and exploring meaningful solutions. Each episode encourages listeners to reframe how they view sustainability, community, and their role in shaping a better future.

Mission

Earth + Humans was created with a deep belief in connection—between individuals, communities, and the Earth. In our pursuit of progress and perfection, we often lose sight of what truly matters. This podcast reminds us of our shared humanity, encouraging empathy and responsibility through storytelling. It sparks a conversation that transcends age, race, and background, inviting all listeners to be part of the solution.

Multi-Media Experience

From a single audio recording, the project evolved into a rich multi-media experience. I led the development of branded visual assets, marketing materials, and interactive e-learning modules to create an engaging, accessible experience for listeners and learners alike.

Featured Deliverables:

🎧 Intro Animation

To boost discoverability and engagement across social media and YouTube, I designed a looping animated intro that visually complements the podcast's identity. This eye-catching piece increased retention and click-through rates across platforms.

🖼 Print Collateral: 4x6 Visual Postcard

To build awareness across the ASU campus, I designed a bold 4x6 postcard aligning with the podcast’s message and branding. Distributed across departments, it became a key tool for driving listeners to streaming platforms.

Conclusion

Earth + Humans is more than a podcast—it's a multidisciplinary storytelling experience that invites people to learn, reflect, and take action. Through the combination of engaging audio, immersive digital design, and interactive learning tools, this project exemplifies how creative media can drive meaningful change.

From concept to production, I had the opportunity to bring this vision to life through design, animation, instructional development, and strategic branding. This experience deepened my passion for visual storytelling and expanded my skills in multimedia communication—proving that when technology and empathy come together, the results can be powerful and lasting.

This project is a reminder that design isn’t just about how things look, but how they make people feel, connect, and move forward.
